The Red Sox’ sellout streak is in jeopardy

The Boston Globe reported on Friday that the sellout streak at Fenway Park — now in its ninth season — is in jeopardy, with preseason ticket sales taking a dip, prices on the secondary market going down and overall interest waning, even if only slightly. I found this interesting:

The Red Sox consider a game a sellout when paid and complimentary tickets equal capacity, so the streak could continue even if paid attendance falls slightly short.

On a related note, it sounds to me like the “streak” was a crock of shit all along if that’s how they handled it lol.

I mean, my God, the park already holds less people than the number that attended a recent Little League World Series game, making said streak a little bit less amazing, but now we find out it involved this kind of number fudging?

Even further, this “creative counting” reminds me of when a past administration actively tried to re-classify fast food jobs as part of the manufacturing sector.
